Muaj
Tsim (Nuj Sua Lis) keeps having dreams about a beautiful girl, who he remembers
her name in the dream to be Laim Txias. Having fallen in love with the girl in
his dreams, he sketches her face onto a poster board.
Muaj
Tsim moves to a village in the highlands to be a doctor for the local villagers.
While taking a break from his duty, he spots a girl swimming in a lake who
resembles the girl in his dreams. He calls out and chases after her, but is unsuccessful.
Then,
during his second chance encounter with her at the same lake, he stops her from
leaving and forces her to reveal herself to him. After telling him that her name
was Ntxhee Yees (Paj Xia Yaj), she immediately leaves.
Curious
to know more about Ntxhee Yees, Muaj Tsim finds out from his medical assistant
that Ntxhee Yees is an orphan who lives with her younger paternal uncle and
aunt. However, the couple does not love Ntxhee Yees and forces her to do the
house and farm chores.
Pitying
Ntxhee Yees, Muaj Tsim decides to hire her for two months to not only serve his
group of friends who would be visiting him shortly, but also use it is a chance
to help her escape her slavery. Ntxhee Yees’ malevolent aunt saw this
opportunity to completely sell Ntxhee Yees off to the doctor. But, when the
aunt comes to meet the doctor, Muaj Tsim lies that the doctor is not around but
he is willing to pay the aunt and keep Ntxhee Yees for an indefinite amount of
time. The aunt could care less, so she willingly agrees to Muaj Tsim’s offer. After
she sells Ntxhee Yees, she and her family move to town without informing Ntxhee
Yees of their departure.
Muaj
Tsim’s friends arrive and almost everyone seems to like Ntxhee Yees. His close buddy
is even surprised to see the keen resemblance between Ntxhee Yees and the girl
that Muaj Tsim sketched. The only person who dislikes Ntxhee Yees is Muaj Tsim’s
sister, Paj Ntxov’s, friend—Ntxoo, since she likes Muaj Tsim too. However, Muaj
Tsim tells her repeatedly that he treats her like a sister only. But, his buddy
is very fond of Ntxoo.
At
the end of the group’s trip, Ntxoo comes to accept the fact that Muaj Tsim has
no feelings for her and gives her blessings to Ntxhee Yees and Muaj Tsim. She
then finds love in the arms of Muaj Tsim’s friend.
After
the group leaves, Ntxhee Yees keeps waiting for her aunt and uncle to come pick
her up. However to her dismay, she learns that they have already permanently
left the village. She cries on top of a larger boulder, asking her parents for
an answer as to why she was left an orphan. When her parents appear in the form
of a cloud to assure her of their continual protection of her wellbeing, she
then decides to continue to stay with Muaj Tsim. Eventually, Muaj Tsim asks for
her hands-in-marriage. Although she silently loves Muaj Tsim, through the
spoken-words, she tells him that as an orphan, she doesn’t have many choices.
As long as he is willing to be with her, then she too is willing to accept him.
After
she marries Muaj Tsim and returns from a trip to visit his parents in town, her
paternal aunt and uncle reappear at the village. They tell Ntxhee Yees that
they have nowhere else to go. Her cousin’s husband has scammed the couple of
their money, so their only hope rests with Ntxhee Yees now. Soon afterwards,
Ntxhee Yees’s cousin comes back as well. She reveals that she and her abusive husband
have gone their separate ways. Having no one else to turn to, she has returned
to live with her parents and seeks forgiveness from Ntxhee Yees. Ntxhee Yees forgives
the family, and even asks Muaj Tsim to finance the building of a new home for
them, which he does not hesitate to agree.
Muaj
Tsim and Ntxhee Yees revisit some of their previous outing spots. The movie
ends with them finding comfort and love in one another.
I have no other comment for this movie with the exception that the main female lead cries too much, and the story line is draggy and long. It bores me occasionally. I think this movie is good for the elderly who are not so judgmental and can sit through long movies like this one. My mom, at least, enjoys this film.
